KUCHING, May 17: Datu Jaul Samion has been appointed Acting State Secretary as State Secretary Tan Sri Mohd Morshidi Abdul Ghani goes on long leave prior to retiring this August.

Jaul’s appointment came into effect yesterday after a simple ceremony, where Morshidi handed over duties to Jaul in the presence of Deputy State Secretaries Datu Dr Sabariah Putit and Datu Abu Bakar Marzuki at Wisma Bapa Malaysia.

Speculations have been rife that Jaul, in his early 60s, will take over the reins of the state civil service from Morshidi since last year.

When contacted, Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Dr James Jemut Masing said Jaul’s appointment as Acting State Secretary was indeed appropriate.

“With his long years of service in various ministries, including Ministry of Land Development (MLD) and Industries (MID), Datu Jaul will bring his experience and skills into the office of the State Secretary to continue the good work done by Tan Sri Morshidi.

“It is a smooth transition of authority. I wish Datu Jaul all the best and may God bless and guide him in his work,” said Masing.

Masing added that Jaul and Morshidi were once permanent secretaries under his previous ministries, where Jaul was his Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Land Development, while Morshidi was his Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Social Development and Urbanisation. — DayakDaily
