Jaul retires, Abu Bakar to take over as Sarawak State Secretary

KUCHING, June 30: State Secretary Datuk Amar Jaul Samion will be retiring, effective July 1, 2022, after serving for more than 42 years in the State civil service.

Deputy State Secretary (Economic Planning and Development) Dato Sri Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki, who is currently the acting State Secretary, will be replacing Jaul who has held the post since Aug 22, 2019.

In a news report by Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas) today, Jaul handed over his duties to Abu Bakar at a brief ceremony at Wisma Bapa Malaysia here today.

Deputy State Secretary (Administration) Datu Ik Pahon Joyik and directors from various units under the Premier of Sarawak’s Department were also present.

The brief ceremony also saw Jaul handing over his responsibilities for Immigration and Labour Management Unit (ILMU) which was created by him to Abu Bakar.

ILMU was established in October 2021 to facilitate and regulate the entry of foreigners into Sarawak in an effort to enhance security as well as safeguard the interest of Sarawak.

In his more than 42 years of service in the Sarawak government, Jaul has served as the Deputy State Secretary in charge of Rural Transformation from Aug 8, 2016 to May 16, 2019 before acting as the State Secretary from May 17 to Aug 21, 2019.

Jaul, who has extensive experience in the civil service, is also the second Iban to hold the State Secretary post. — DayakDaily
