Jalan Rubber Cluster infects 12, involves family and workplace

KUCHING, May 12: A Covid-19 cluster which spread through a family and workplace at Rubber Road here has infected 12 people.

The cluster, dubbed the Jalan Rubber Cluster is one of the seven new Covid-19 clusters declared in Sarawak by the State Health Department today.


The other six clusters are the Nanga Skrang Cluster in Sri Aman, Stapok Settlement Scheme Cluster (Kuching), Asia Villa Cluster (Kuching), Bumi Konsortium Cluster (Kuching), Kemas Cluster (Kuching) and Singgahsana Lodge Cluster (Kuching).

According to reports from the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), the Jalan Rubber Cluster is a family and workplace cluster which involved a family staying at Rubber Road.

At present, a total of 155 individuals related to the cluster have been screened for Covid-19.

Out of that, 12 positive cases including the index case have been identified while the balance of 143 individuals are still awaiting the results of their Covid-19 swab test.

SDMC added that there were no new cases emerging from the Jalan Rubber Cluster while all the positive cases have been admitted to Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) and quarantine and low-risk treatment centres in Kuching for isolation and treatment.

The committee added all the close contacts of the Jalan Rubber Cluster have been identified and are under quarantine.

On another note, the additional seven new clusters reported today have raised the number of active clusters of Covid-19 in Sarawak to 83.

Out of the 83 active clusters, 11 clusters reported 44 new cases of Covid-19 while the balance of 72 clusters did not report new cases. — DayakDaily
