KUCHING, Aug 16: A man was killed while another was injured after two motorcycles collided at Batu 9½, Jalan Matang here on Saturday night (Aug 15).
According to Padawan district police chief Supt Barry William, the incident occurred at about 10.30pm, when the 35-year-old victim was believed to have been travelling from Batu 10, Jalan Matang, before entering the opposite lane.
“The victim’s motorcycle then collided with another motorcycle ridden by a 23-year-old man travelling from the opposite direction, namely from Batu 8, Jalan Matang.
“As a result of the collision, the victim sustained serious injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by medical officers from Sarawak General Hospital (SGH),” he said in a statement.
Meanwhile, he said the other victim sustained abdominal injuries and was taken to SGH for further treatment in the Yellow Zone.
“Initial investigations found that the accident occurred along the road towards Batu 10, Jalan Matang, with good weather conditions and a dry, level road surface at the time of the incident.
“Police conducted an investigation at the scene, recorded statements from witnesses, and seized both motorcycles involved for further investigation,” he said.
The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. — DayakDaily
