KUCHING, Feb 13: The season of krill shrimps or better known as ‘bubuk’ and ‘udang geragau’, has begun in Miri.
Fish markets in Miri are now under the limelight as there is an abundant supply of krill shrimps for cooking or making shrimp paste (‘belacan’) and fermented shrimps (‘cencaluk’).
These highly demanded krill shrimps are sold at the price ranging from RM6 to RM8 per kilogram at fish markets in Kampung Batu Satu Kuala Baram, Kampung Piasau Utara, Kampung Luak, and Kampung Kuala Bakam.
According to a news report by Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas), krill shrimps available in Miri markets have the best quality.
As is customary, the krill shrimp season is short and only lasts for three to four weeks, depending on the weather.
That explains why krill shrimps are so popular among locals and tourists every time the season arrives, not only in Miri but throughout Sarawak. — DayakDaily
