KUCHING, Oct 22: Just like a father coaxing his children, Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg told Sarawakians that being in the top five for Malaysian Games (Sukma) is also a success.

He was referring to the recent Sukma XX which had closed its curtain last month with Sarawak finishing in fourth place.

Johor emerged champion followed by Terengganu and Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur in second and third places respectively.

“In Sukma, we (Sarawak) are still the top five (states) that received success.

“Despite not being the champion, it’s okay, we are still in the top five leading states.

“Insya-Allah one day we will become the champion in Sukma,” he said when officiating the Sarawak Youth Day 2022 celebration held at Dataran Perayaan in Petra Jaya here today.

With the Sarawak government committed to developing the creative industry with the existing talents, Abang Johari said it also provides facilities to elevate the local sports industry.

Amongst those present were Sarawak Deputy Premier Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian, Minister for Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, Deputy Minister for Youth and Sports Dato Gerald Rentap Jabu, Deputy Minister for Entrepreneur Development Dr Ripin Lamat, and Ministry of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development (MYSED) permanent secretary Nancy Jolhi. — DayakDaily
