KUCHING, Aug 5: Minister for Local Government and Housing, Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian has chided netizens for spreading fake news purportedly about a student in a school here who had been infected with Covid-19 today.
According to the fake notice being circulated in social media, the school concerned will be closed down starting tomorrow.
“Have been receiving many similar info since yesterday asking for verification. It’s fake!,” he slammed in his Facebook posting today.
Dr Sim viewed that those who started spreading the fake news must be with evil intention or mentally sick as what they did was not funny at all but only caused unnecessarily stress and exacerbated anxiety among the people.
He thus urged the public not to forward the fake news to their friends and others in their social circle to stop bad information from going viral.
“Please don’t be part of the act by forwarding fake news to your friends,” he advised while noting that this was not the first time and would not be the last time such fake news will appear.-DayakDaily
