KUCHING, Nov 7: Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Amar Fadillah Yusof has decline to comment on speculation that he may contest in the upcoming Sarawak Election, saying there is no basis for him to respond to rumours.

Responding to questions about his possible candidacy, Fadillah brushed off the speculation, saying he was unaware of it.

“It is speculation, isn’t it? So there is no need for me to comment. I don’t know either,” he said when met by the media after the futsal court launching ceremony at Kuching Police Headquarters (IPK) today.

On the election preparations, Fadillah said the election machinery of Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) and Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) was already on standby.

He said the election was essentially a democratic process that would allow the people to decide who would govern Sarawak for the next five years.

“Our work, however, is continuous. We have been working since the last election. This is merely a democratic process through which we must hold an election,” he said.

Fadillah added that PBB was prepared to assist its GPS component parties, with all parties expected to work closely together throughout the campaign.

He said preparations, including logistics and other arrangements, had already been organised under the existing coordination structure.

The machinery would begin its ground campaign after nomination day to mobilise voters and secure support for GPS.

He said GPS would adapt its campaign arrangements accordingly, regardless of whether the EC set a 14-day or 10-day campaign period.

“That is at the discretion and within the jurisdiction of the EC. As a party, we respect whatever decision it makes,” he said.

Fadillah also officiated the launching of the futsal court at IPK Kuching, which was completed on Oct 10, 2025, at a cost of RM800,000 to provide recreational facilities for the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM). — DayakDaily
