KUCHING, Sept 23: The Sarawak Teacher Education Institute (IPGKS) Miri recorded a global win at the World Robotics Championship 2025 when its two teams— X-UNITECH and NOVATECH—secured first and third, respectively, in the Future Engineers category at the World Robot Olympiad (WRO) Asia-Pacific Open Championship 2025 held in Manila, Philippines, from Sept 19 to 21.
“This tournament not only tested technological and robotics engineering skills but also served as a platform for young students to foster innovation, problem-solving skills and teamwork,” said the organisers in a Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS) report today.
Both teams were made up of six trainee teachers from IPGKS Miri—Vun Xiu Xuan, Alvin Kong Wei Ee, Jennissa Aing Jim, Lai Chaun Choy, Adam Syahmi Mohd Syahrizal, and Muhammad Hakim Khairul Azam guided by coaches Dr Hu Laey Nee and Dr Norsarihan Ahmad, with support from Tesslab Robotics.
“This victory marks another addition to IPG Sarawak team’s outstanding record, who also won the Robomission Senior category in Slovenia on September 5.”
Carrying the theme ‘The Future of Robots’, the international tournament brought together 108 teams representing 22 countries with nearly 1,000 participants from nations such as Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Germany, Turkey, the United States, India, and Singapore.
The success reflects Sarawak’s rising capability in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) education, aligning with the Sarawak Ministry of Education, Innovation and Talent Development’s initiatives to advance robotics learning in the State. — DayakDaily
