MIRI, July 16: A machete-wielding man attacked a 26-year-old man and his 19-year-old wife inside the couple’s house at Taman Permai, RPR 2 Permyjaya, in the wee hours on Sunday.

According to preliminary police investigations, the 24-year-old suspect claimed that the female victim is actually his wife.

Both victims were injured on their left arms and were treated at Miri Hospital.

Acting city police chief DSP Aldrin Junaidi Kutoi, who confirmed the incident, said his men arrested the suspect in the couple’s house at 4.21am on the same day.

The suspect is now under remand until July 19, and the case is being investigated under Section 324/448 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means and house trespassing.

It is understood that the episode unfolded when the suspect, who is believed to be intoxicated at the time, arrived at his victims’ house at about 1.30am.

The couple was asleep at the time, but when the husband heard a loud knocking sound on the door, he asked his wife to check it out. Shortly thereafter, he immediately jumped out of bed when he heard his wife screaming.

Upon opening his bedroom door, he saw the suspect standing right in front of him, with machete in hand. They both put up a struggle, but the suspect was subdued after some 30 minutes. The victim then alerted the police. — DayakDaily
