KUCHING, Sept 30: The International Dragon Boat Regatta 2022, which is scheduled to be held from Oct 28 to 30 will feature 2,000 participants from 16 countries.
Youth, Sports and Entrepreneurship Development Minister Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah revealed this after his courtesy call on Sarawak Governor Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud at the latter’s residence at Demak Jaya, Kuching today.
According to Abdul Karim, the purpose of the courtesy call was to extend an invitation to the Governor to attend the Sarawak Regatta, which will be held from Nov 4 to 6 – a week after the Internal Dragon Boat Regatta 2022.
The 16 participating countries include the United Kingdom, Georgia, Cyprus, Italy, the United States, Australia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, the Netherlands, Indonesia, Brunei, Iran, the United Arab Emirates, Bangladesh and Malaysia.
The total value of all prizes including trophies and cash is RM100,000.
Quoting Abdul Karim who is also Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Minister, Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) also reported that there will be a total of 14 categories for the three-day Sarawak Regatta.
The total value of prizes up for grabs is RM254,000 during the Sarawak Regatta, including cash prizes and trophies.
Meanwhile, apart from the Sarawak Regatta Organising Committee led by Abdul Karim, Transport Minister Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin also led five deputy ministers in charge of the Governor’s 2022 Birthday Celebration also called on the Governor.
The purpose of the call was to discuss the activities to be held during the Governor’s birthday celebration, which falls on Oct 8 in Miri.
Also present were Women, Child Development and Community Wellbeing Deputy Minister Datuk Rosey Yunus; Food Industry, Commodity and Regional Development Deputy Minister Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman lsmail; Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Duty Minister Datuk Sebastian Ting Chiew Yew; Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department (Project Monitoring) Dato Gerawat Gala; Entrepreneur Development Deputy Minister Dr Ripin Lamat and Miri Division Resident Abdul Aziz Mohamad Yusuf. — DayakDaily
