KUCHING, March 29: A 62-year-old man from Sri Aman has been infected with Covid-19 due to his frequent trips between Kuching and Sri Aman which gave rise to a new cluster of Covid-19 known as the Taman Vistagro Cluster in Sri Aman.
According to reports from the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), the patient was identified through symptomatic screening at a private clinic.
Following investigation, it was believed that the patient had contacted Covid-19 from the community through inter-zone travelling which he had made to Kuching.
SDMC said the index case, case 14,911 was detected Covid-19 positive through rapid test kit (RTK) antigen at a private clinic on March 23, adding that the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test which he performed on March 25 was also confirmed positive for Covid-19.
Thereafter, the State Health Department conducted active case tracing on close contacts and family members of the patient at his housing estate in Taman Vistagro.
As a result, another 17 positive Covid-19 cases were identified.
At the moment, a total of 179 individuals linked to the patient have been swabbed for Covid-19.
It yielded 18 positive cases including the index case while 46 individuals were tested negative and 115 individuals are still awaiting the results of their Covid-19 swab test.
On another note, there are 33 clusters of Covid-19 which are active in Sarawak.
Out of the 33 active clusters, nine clusters reported new cases while the balance of 24 active clusters did not report new cases.
Apart from that, the Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) which was implemented at Kampung Bintawa Ulu and Kampung Bintawa Tengah here has ended following no new Covid-19 cases emerging on the second swab test on the villagers. — DayakDaily
