Covid-19 situation in Kanowit worsens

KUCHING, March 29: The Covid-19 situation in Kanowit has worsened as the district reported 25 cases of local infection in the past 14 days.

In view of that, the district has turned into an orange zone of Covid-19 from a yellow zone.


An orange zone is a zone which reported 21 to 40 cases of Covid-19 in the past two weeks while a yellow zone is a district which reported one to 20 cases of Covid-19 over a fortnight.

With Kanowit turning into an orange zone of Covid-19, there are currently four districts in Sarawak classified as orange zones of Covid-19, according to a statement from the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC).

They are Kanowit, Song, Bukit Mabong and Sarikei which reported a cumulative 103 cases of Covid-19 in the past 14 days.

In the meantime, 11 districts namely Samarahan, Sri Aman, Serian, Julau, Betong, Meradong, Kuching, Kapit, Bintulu, Miri and Sibu reported a total of 2,599 cases of local transmission in the past two weeks.

There are 17 districts in Sarawak categorised as yellow zones of Covid-19 and reported a cumulative of 98 cases in the past fortnight.

They are Matu, Pakan, Marudi, Subis, Tanjung Manis, Beluru, Tebedu, Bau, Mukah, Selangau, Dalat, Limbang, Telang Usan, Belaga, Lundu, Saratok and Sebauh.

Meanwhile, eight districts in the state remained as green zones of Covid-19 and did not report new cases of coronavirus.

They are Tatau, Pusa, Asajaya, Lawas, Daro, Simunjan, Lubok Antu and Kabong. — DayakDaily
