KUCHING, July 29: Employees performing duties in the essential services category must bring along letters of approval from their heads of departments and agencies to commute between Zone 1 and Zone 2.

The State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), in a statement today, revealed that this decision for employees in essential services to produce a letter of approval as the condition for inter-zone travel was made in the meeting today.

Additionally, SDMC also reminded that all those traveling between Zone 1 and 2 must first obtain permission or permit from the police prior to purchasing travel tickets.

This instruction applies for domestic flights, regional bus services and express boat services.

Following a spike in Covid-19 cases in the past week that caused Kuching to revert to a Covid-19 red zone, the state government has imposed inter-zone travel restrictions which will come into effect from Aug 1 to 14.

Zone 1 covers Kuching, Samarahan and Serian divisions while Zone 2 covers Sri Aman, Betong, Sarikei, Sibu, Kapit, Mukah, Bintulu, Miri and Limbang.

Anyone who wants to travel between the zones must obtain prior permission from the police. Exemptions will be given for those on official duty, those who need to travel due to death or critical illness in the family or go for a medical check-up.

However, movement within the zones is allowed. ā€” DayakDaily
