KUCHING, March 8: The Ministry of Public Health, Housing and Local Government’s (MPHLG) annual Integrity Day is not just for show, asserts its minister Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian.

The Sarawak Deputy Premier said the ministry, department and agency heads must also convey the message and knowlege of integrity to their teams and subordinates.

“I would like to quote the words of our prime minister which is ‘This is a matter of good governance and accountability. The leadership should ensure that there is no leakage.’

“The key point from this message is ‘leader’. Don’t just ‘angkat sumpah’ (swear on oath).

“Don’t do it just for the sake of ceremony, but internalise it and pass it on to your staff,” said Dr Sim when officiating the MPHLG Integrity Day held at the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) here today.

Hence, as leaders, he added, the heads of department must play their roles in monitoring the duties of officers under their supervision and ensure they carry out their responsibilities with trust, transparency and accountability.

Among those also present were MPHLG deputy ministers Dato Pengguang Manggil and Michael Tiang as well as deputy permanent secretary Elizabeth Lo. — DayakDaily
