KUCHING, July 26: The ‘Inspirasi Anak Sarawak’ TikTok Challenge, jointly organised by the Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas) and Koperasi Pro Belia Inovatif Sarawak Berhad (Kobis), will be elevated into an annual competition, with plans to broaden its scale and diversify its reach.

Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department (Corporate Affairs, Information and Ukas), Datuk Abdullah Saidol, said the initiative further enhances Ukas’ role not only in disseminating government information but also in empowering youth through digital platforms and social media.

Building on the momentum of the inaugural challenge, Abdullah announced the introduction of a Premier Sarawak Award, to be launched next year in conjunction with National Journalists Day (Hawana) and the Sarawak Media Conference (SMeC).

“To Kobis and Ukas, I hope this challenge becomes a yearly affair. We organise SMeC annually, and alongside that, we celebrate Sarawak’s Hawana. I will introduce a special Premier Sarawak Award to honour creators who produce and share content that is positive, motivational, and reflective of our identity,” he said in a Ukas news report.

He made these remarks during the TikTok Challenge Prize Presentation Ceremony held at Pustaka Sarawak on Friday (July 25).

Abdullah also proposed expanding future editions of the competition with special categories for primary school, secondary school, and university-level participants.

To support this, he contributed RM10,000 to Ukas for the organisation of a similar programme in conjunction with Malaysia Day this year.

“I will allocate another RM10,000 through the Ukas Staff Welfare Club specifically for the programme on Sept 16,” he added.

This year’s grand prize winner of the ‘Inspirasi Anak Sarawak’ TikTok Challenge was Awang Razin Awang Baderulhisam, who received a cash prize of RM2,500. Mohd Arash Nazri Mohamad Tinggal and Georgebrill Bian secured second and third place, taking home RM1,500 and RM1,000, respectively.

Consolation prizes of RM500 each were awarded to Nur-Az’zyieliaton Saja’eei, Awang Suhaimy Awang Omar, Thong Wee Yin, and Selma Eryshea Hubert.

Also in attendance were Deputy Sarawak Secretary (Operations) Datu Hii Chang Kee, Ukas director Awang Putrayusrie Awang Redzuan, Kobis chairman Zaiwim Kassim, and Pustaka Sarawak chief executive officer Japri Bujang Masli. — DayakDaily
