KUALA LUMPUR: The Inland Revenue Board (LHDNM) issued a statement today denying that it is the source of a viral post on social media alleging mismanagement of national finances.

LHDNM said the article which has been circulating on WhatsApp and other social media platforms has been seasonally going viral online since 2015 and that they have issued a number of denials before this as the article was said to be from LHDNM.

A formal complaint has been lodged with the Malaysia Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) as well as its Consumer Protection and Complaints Bureau and the matter is being investigated by the authorities.

LHDNM also said further checks on the article’s content suggested that its source could possibly be an article published by a newspaper belonging to a certain political party which can be viewed here.

LHDNM denied that the said viral post was issued by the agency or came from any of its officers. It also said the attempt to link the matter to LHDNM was irresponsible and that disseminating the false information was intended to raise concerns among the public through inaccurate economic analysis.

The agency advised the public to refer directly to its official portal (www.hasil.gov.my) or that of the Ministry of Finance (www.treasury.gov.my) as well as other relevant agencies to obtain accurate and legitimate economic analysis and data.
