Inking of UPP, SUPP MoU to cooperate for GE14 still on track

KUCHING, March 17: United People’s Party (UPP) Youth Central Committee pledges to support and help any Barisan Nasional (BN) candidates contesting during the coming general election, even candidates from Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP).

UPP Youth Chief Dr Johnical Rayong Ngipa said this, when referring to the proposed memorandum signing between UPP president Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh and SUPP president Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian, to be witnessed by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg.

The signing ceremony should have been held on Sunday but was postponed to another date, Rayong revealed.


Although he could not elaborate on the details of the memorandum, he disclosed that it would be something positive where both parties would be working together in the coming general election.

“It (signing of memorandum) is confirmed and will happen, but has been postponed to a later date, yet to be announced.

“Both party presidents (Wong and Dr Sim) will be signing the memorandum, to be witnessed by the chief minister,” Rayong who is alSo Engkilili assemblyman told reporters after chairing the UPP Youth Central Committee meeting at the party’s Padungan branch office here this morning.

Meanwhile, UPP Youth secretary Yap Min Su made a declaration that the party would be supporting Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and his deputy Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, as well as UPP president Wong.

He also pledged support for any candidate nominated under the BN flag, even from SUPP, assuring that there will be no backstabbing between the two parties later during the general election.

“As youths, we will continue to support all of our state leaders’ efforts and their commitment in making Sarawak achieve its goals of getting back its rights, and to develop modern infrastructure and facilities for the state such as the proposed Light Railway Transport (LRT), the Development Bank of Sarawak (DBoS), Petroleum Sarawak Bhd (Petros) and also the latest digital technology in science and education, to propel economic growth and increase the standards of living for the people of Sarawak.

“We the UPP youth are in solidarity to support all of the BN candidates for the coming 14th general election, and will ensure every BN candidates will fully receive our undivided support in this coming election, for we believe in the principle of unity to serve for the advancement of Sarawak and Malaysia as a whole,” said Yap. — DayakDaily
