KUCHING, Nov 26: Pelagus has the potential to become a major food supplier for the entire State, but only if the Sarawak government accelerates long-overdue agricultural infrastructure in the constituency, Pelagus assemblyman Wilson Nyabong Liang says.
Debating the Supply Bill 2026 at the Legislative Assembly (DUS) sitting today, he pressed for urgent action to expedite the Agriculture Integrated Training Centre (AITC) at Nanga Mujong and to establish a permanent Food Park in Pelagus, warning that delays will continue to hold back the region’s economic capacity.
“The approved training centre must begin operations without further setback to produce skilled agro-professionals and nurture the next generation of agri-preneurs,” he said.
A permanent Food Park, he added, would anchor production, processing and market access, unlocking jobs, new enterprises and sustainable income for rural youths and smallholders.
“With these initiatives, Pelagus can emerge as Sarawak’s food valley, supplying not only Kapit but the whole State,” he emphasised. —DayakDaily
