Indoor and outdoor sports, recreation activities allowed in compliance with SOPs

KUCHING, March 1: Indoor and outdoor sports, recreation activities as well as the organising of tournaments and competitions are allowed in strict compliance with the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) standard operating procedures (SOPs), said Sarawak Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.

According to Abdul Karim, indoor and outdoor sports as well as recreation activities for individuals or groups for the purpose of training, games and competition, must be held in compliance with the sports and recreation sector’s SOP, without the attendance of spectators or supporters.


“However, the permission to operate using the public sports facilities by the public will be limited and it must come with a support letter from the Ministry of Youth and Sports Sarawak (KBSS) or the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC),” he said during a press conference on the update of Covid-19 situation in Sarawak here today.

He added the same applies for the organising of tournaments and competitions which is subjected to the approval from KBSS while SDMC must be informed of the event.

On the same note, Abdul Karim stressed that any competition and tournament organised with the attendance of supporters or spectators without the approval of KBSS or SDMC are not allowed.

“This includes any activities that involve mass public participation such as Fun Run, Fun Ride, Marathon and Triathlon,” he said.
