Indonesian national feared drowned in Tanjung Manis

Search and rescue operations for Indonesian worker Ikbal Ramadan feared drown after falling from a fishing boat.

TANJUNG MANIS, Sept 9: An Indonesian worker who reportedly fell from a fishing vessel was feared to have drowned yesterday.

Fire and Rescue department (Bomba) operations centre in a statement said their Tanjung Manis fire station control room received the emergency call at 11.45pm pertaining to a worker Ikbal Ramadan, 27, believed to have fallen from a fishing vessel belonging to Fieldmart Company Sdn Bhd.

“The ship departed from Fisheries Development Authorities (LKIM) Tanjung Manis jetty at 9.45am heading towards northeast up to as far as 18 nautical miles.


“Workers in the ship only noticed Ikbal’s disappearance at 3pm,” the statement said.

Search and rescue (SAR) operation was immediately mounted this morning.

Operations commander Khairul Basri Sulaiman reported that the SAR which consist of firefighters, police and civil defence were divided into four sectors, using water surface searching technique.

The search area went as far as 10 nautical miles.

As at 5pm, they have yet to locate the victim.—DayakDaily
