Indonesian man killed in landslide during illegal gold mining at Mount Tabai in Bau

KUCHING, Aug 27: The body of a man believed to be an Indonesian national was found buried under a landslide while illegally mining for gold in a restricted area of Mount Tabai, Bau on Aug 13.

According to a statement from the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Sarawak, the incident was reported late to the authorities, prompting the involvement of local police and rescue services.

“The request for assistance was received from the Bau District Police Chief, who reported the incident and requested Bomba’s help in recovering the body.

“The call came in at 2.30pm on Tuesday, Aug 27. A team from Bau Fire Station (BBP Bau) was immediately dispatched to the site.

“However, upon arrival, the team confirmed the location of the buried body, and full recovery operations are scheduled to commence the following day,” read the statement. — DayakDaily
