SIBU, June 25: An Indonesian man in his 30s was found lying in a pool of blood and pronounced dead at a farm hut along Jalan Rantau Panjang here on Monday (June 23), prompting swift police action that led to the arrest of two suspects within 12 hours.
According to Sibu District Police chief ACP Zulkipli Suhaili, the victim, who had no valid travel documents, was discovered at approximately 5.17pm on June 23 by a member of the public who immediately lodged a police report.
Following the report, officers from the Criminal Investigation Department launched an investigation and managed to arrest a married Indonesian couple—also in their 30s and undocumented—at about 9.50pm the same day.
The duo was apprehended by the roadside along Jalan Teku-Pasai Siong.
“Police also seized several items believed to be connected to the murder case,” Zulkipli said in a media statement issued yesterday (June 24).
He added that a seven-day remand order has been granted for the suspects until July 1 to facilitate further investigations.
The case is currently being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder, which carries the mandatory death penalty upon conviction.
Zulkipli urged the public not to engage in speculation that could disrupt the investigation and appealed to anyone with relevant information to contact Investigating Officer ASP Mingat Bakil at 019-8867978 or report to the nearest police station. — DayakDaily
