KUCHING, Feb 23: The Indonesian Consulate General in Kuching will hold the inaugural Borneo SMEs Festival from Feb 23-24.

In a statement today, Kuching South City Council (MBKS) mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng said the event will feature 21 SME enterprises from Kalimantan in Indonesia and Sarawak, spanning various sectors such as food and beverages, trading, and travel.

“The event aims to showcase the entrepreneurial spirit and potential of the Borneo region,” he said.

Wee disclosed as part of the festivities, attendees will also have the opportunity to witness the traditional Nusantara art of Merangkai Janur, which is the arranging of coconut leaves, presented by the President of the Association of Indonesian Arranging Flowers.

He said with the theme ‘Janur goes to Borneo’, the demonstration seeks to highlight the universal appeal of traditional arts and crafts, inviting the people of Borneo to embrace and celebrate their cultural heritage.

He also said that they envision even greater collaboration and participation in future events, with the inclusion of SMEs from Sabah and Brunei Darussalam, further enhancing regional cooperation and economic prosperity.

“I urge everyone to join us in person or online for the Borneo SMEs Festival, as we come together to support and empower local businesses.
