MIRI, Dec 19: The Sarawak government’s inclusive approach and focus on the people’s welfare became the key elements that helped Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) in winning the N77 Telang Usan seat.

According to Telang Usan assemblyman Dennis Ngau who retained the seat with a huge majority for the third term in the recently concluded 12th Sarawak Election yesterday, it is a combination of both that helped contribute to GPS’ big win compared to the 11th State Election.

“This time around we are much more prepared, and people at the grassroots level have given us the strong support that determined our huge victory in Telang Usan,” he said.

He added, the continuous effort by the State government to bring various development projects in Telang Usan has proven to have benefited the people.

“The majority that we received is proof of the rakyat’s trust in us,” he pointed out.

Yesterday, Dennis garnered a total of 3,861 votes to defeat his opponents in a four-cornered fight, with a majority of 2,422 votes.

His closest rival, Jau Jok @ Jenggo of the Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB) received 1,439 votes, Philip Jau Ding of Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) received 1,093 votes, and Gia Bala of the Parti Bumi Kenyalang (PBK) received 68 votes.

In the 2016 Sarawak election, in a straight fight against PKR’s Roland Engan, Dennis won the seat with a majority of 167 votes.

He secured 3,231 votes while Roland garnered 3,064 votes. ― DayakDaily
