KUCHING, Jan 29: A total of 42 foreign nationals were detained during an immigration enforcement operation carried out around Kuching from Jan 27 to Jan 28, targeting undocumented migrants and other immigration law violations.
According to a TVS news report, the integrated operation, led by the Kuching Immigration Enforcement Division and involving 31 enforcement officers, was carried out to curb the presence of foreign nationals without valid travel documents and permits, and to ensure compliance with Malaysia’s immigration laws.
The Sarawak Immigration Department said in a statement that the operation focused on several strategic locations, including the Kampung Sandong cement factory area, rental houses in Kampung Kudei, workers’ quarters at the Metrocity construction site, as well as several food premises along Jalan Semarak, Gita.
The department said several premises suspected of being involved in online gambling activities were also raided, with investigations indicating that foreign nationals were believed to have been employed illegally.
“During the operation, some of the foreign nationals attempted to flee and hide to avoid inspection. However, swift action and the efficiency of the enforcement officers successfully thwarted these attempts,” the statement said.
All those detained were taken to the Kuching Immigration Office for further investigation and action under the Immigration Act 1959/63 and related regulations. — DayakDaily
