KUCHING, July 29: A syndicate involved in smuggling undocumented Bangladeshi migrants into Malaysia has been successfully dismantled by the Monitoring, Control, and Enforcement Unit of the Sarawak Immigration Department during an operation at Kuching International Airport (KIA) on Monday (July 28).

In a TVS news report, the department said the operation’s success was the result of stringent patrols and close monitoring by its enforcement team.

“A total of 15 Bangladeshi men were detained at around 12.50pm upon arrival from Kuala Lumpur,” the department said in a statement today.

Initial checks revealed that none of the individuals had valid entry records in the Immigration Department’s system, raising serious concerns about their immigration status.

Further investigation uncovered that the passports they used contained suspected forged immigration stamps, believed to be an attempt to deceive authorities and bypass lawful inspections.

Shockingly, preliminary findings revealed that each migrant had paid between RM18,000 and RM20,000 to syndicate agents to be smuggled into the country through illegal channels.

All detainees are currently being held at the Semuja Immigration Detention Depot for further investigation under the Immigration Act 1959/63. — DayakDaily
