BINTULU, June 11: Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) president Dato Seri Tiong King Sing has expressed his sadness over certain individuals from different component parties under Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) coalition who still oppress a smaller party like PDP and treat it like a stepchild.
GPS comprises four component parties, namely Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB), Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP), Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS), and PDP.
Tiong said the GPS component parties now share power in administering the Sarawak government.
“Sharing our trust and responsibility, sharing our strength and weakness, sharing our victory and defeat. This is the real meaning of sharing power.
“I am very sad that some (individuals) within component parties of our coalition (GPS) still oppress a smaller party like PDP and treat us like stepchildren. We need to be stronger than we were before,” he said during the opening ceremony of PDP’s Triennial General Assembly (TGA) held today at Dinner World Restaurant.
Tiong, who is also Malaysian Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC), Bintulu MP, and Dudong assemblyman, further reminded certain individuals not to bring ruins to GPS.
“We need a leader with a big heart that takes this alliance (GPS) as a part of a whole that ensures that the best services are delivered to all Sarawakians.
“I want to take this opportunity to rebuke several members within the alliance that have not learnt lessons from the recent general election. There is no longer such a thing as a dominant party in national politics. Any politician can collapse at the ballot box,” he added.
The TGA was officiated by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
Also present were GPS secretary-general Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi; PDP deputy president Dato Henry Harry Jinep, senior vice presidents Datuk Dr Penguang Manggil and Rolland Duat Jubin; and secretary-general Dato Anyi Ngau. — DayakDaily
