SERIAN, Nov 13: Serian’s Industrial Training Institute (ILP) is expected to be operational in early 2024, revealed P199 Serian Gabungan Parti Sarawak-Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (GPS-SUPP) incumbent Dato Sri Richard Riot Jaem.

“The Serian ILP is now 85 per cent completed and it should be operational by early 2024,” Riot told the media after launching the GPS Women’s machinery at Dewan Sri Riot, Kampung Piching, some 10km from here today.

He stressed that among others, ILP Serian will help local youth transform into a highly skilled workforce.

“Any nation which aspires to be developed must also produce a skilled workforce. In Germany, skilled workers get better pay compare to those working in offices. That will definitely benefit Serian because per intake, there will be 600 students and the courses will be similar with other ILPs in the rest of the country,” said Riot, who was a former Minister of Human Resources.

Currently, there are 32 such institutes in the country including one each in Kota Samarahan and Bintulu. ILP Serian is located on a 57-acre site along the Serian-Kpg Tangga Road and will cost RM260 million to complete.

Riot also highlighted the urgent need to build SK Sri Sadong and SMK Serian No.2 to cater for the growing needs of the division.

Meanwhile, Riot expressed optimism that the Greater Kuching Coordinated Development Agency (GKCDA) will bring more development to Bidayuh areas stretching from Lundu to Serian. — DayakDaily
