Illegal logging raid nabs two suspects in Kanowit, items and logs worth RM1,426,500

SIBU, April 10: Authorities raided an illegal logging pond in Kanowit yesterday and arrested two individuals suspected to be involved in the illegal activity.

The operation named Op Libas took place at 12pm yesterday in Ulu Sungai Uka, Poi. One is a local man, aged 50, while the other is a 39-year-old Indonesian man.


The Sibu General Operation Force (PGA) also seized 260 logs comprising various tree species.

Other assets seized during the raid were two heavy machines, two cars, a chainsaw, a water pump, a generator and welding equipment.

Items seized, including the logs, were estimated to be worth RM1,426,500.

According to Deputy Supt Frediel Nyambong from PGA Sarawak, a team of eight PGA officers led by Inspector Mohd Salman Zulfitri Sheekandar together with 12 Sarawak Forestry officers took part in the raid. — DayakDaily
