KUCHING, Oct 11: State Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) director Khirudin Drahman today encouraged all Bomba staffers to speak up as he believes in having an “open policy” to foster a warmer working culture.

Khirudin reckoned that creating a culture of open communication was one of the best ways to inspire excellent performance and improve employees’ morale.

“Talk to me. Any idea is an idea, and there is no such thing as a bad idea. Do not think that just because I am your state director, I won’t listen to your ideas.

“We work as a team. We are not a hero on our own because we cannot work alone as firefighters. As a team, we can win, but as individuals, we can’t because team work builds empathy, fosters creativity and strengthens resilience,” he said at the state-level Innovative and Creative (KIK) team thanksgiving ceremony here today.

Six teams represented Bomba Sarawak in the convention from Oct 8-10. They are Cool Tech from Simunjan BBP, Device (Miri Zone 6), Diamond (Miri BBP), Ombak (Marudi BBP), FireOne (Lopeng BBP) and Epic II (Sri Aman). All of them were awarded with one to four stars for their participation.

In addition, Cool Tech won the Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg’s Award by beating 41 teams from several agencies statewide.

When congratulating all the teams, Khirudin also advised them not to focus on just the competition alone but continue to maintain and improve in the eyes of the public.

Every time a mistake or failure comes to light, he said lessons could be drawn from whatever went wrong.

“We received public complaints, but that is all right. It is from here that we learn and become closer to a culture built for growth,” he told his men. — DayakDaily
