KUCHING, May 9: The Dayak Bidayuh National Association (DBNA) reaffirmed its leadership lineup during its 11th Triennial General Assembly (TGA) held at the DBNA Multipurpose Hall here yesterday (May 8), with Datuk Ik Pahon Joyik returned unopposed as president.
His re-election marks a significant milestone for Pahon, who is now beginning his eighth consecutive term since first taking the helm in 2004, reflecting the sustained trust and confidence DBNA members continue to place in his leadership.
Also returned unopposed were secretary-general Jubilant Austinway and treasurer-general Shirley Kho Kim Hai, while Dr Charlie Ungang successfully retained the deputy president post.
The contest for the three vice-president positions emerged as one of the key highlights of the assembly, drawing seven candidates in a closely watched race. Elected to the posts were Associate Professor Dr Kismet Hong Ping, Bronnie Marshall Benedict Poris, and Joseph Jindy Peter Rosen.
Meanwhile, Senorita Senong was elected assistant secretary-general, while Esther Mathew Mapi secured the assistant treasurer-general position.
For the cultural officer role, Richard Banter emerged as the new office bearer, while Aden Nagrace was returned unopposed as information officer.
The ordinary member category, which attracted 29 candidates, saw the election of Datuk Dr Adrian Susin Ambud, Simon Ilus, Datuk Lester Matthew, John Riba Marin, Dr Les Met, Dr Bernard Stephen Jussem, Thomas Daling, and Major Kencha Dewok.
At the close of the assembly, Pahon expressed his gratitude to delegates and observers for ensuring the smooth conduct of the TGA. He also thanked members for their continued confidence in the leadership team to guide DBNA forward.
“The commitment and dedication shown by delegates throughout the assembly reflect the unity and shared aspirations of our community,” he said in a statement today.
The TGA underscored DBNA’s continued commitment to strengthening leadership, fostering unity, and advancing the interests of the Bidayuh community through experienced stewardship and the inclusion of emerging leaders.
Education, Innovation and Talent Development Minister Dato Sri Roland Sagah Wee Inn officiated the opening of the TGA during a welcoming dinner on Friday night. — DayakDaily
