KUCHING, Mar 27:  Muara Tuang assemblyman Datuk Idris Buang proposes that Movement Control Order (MCO) violators be “jailed” in school halls or the like instead of prison.

This he said, was to prevent prisons and police lockups to be turned into the new Covid-19 epicentres.

“I suggest that MCO defaulters be treated differently from criminals and lawbreakers in that they be placed in school halls or other similar places under guards.

“Otherwise, our prisons and police lockups would inevitably become new Covid-19 epicentres,” Idris who is also Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) information chief told DayakDaily.

Despite repeated calls and stern warnings, there were still Sarawakians who openly violated MCO by loitering in town areas after 7pm.

Yesterday, Deputy Police Commissioner of Sarawak Datuk Dev Kumar disclosed that since Mar 25 (until Mar 26), the police had arrested 28 for violation of MCO.

Out of the 28, nine were arrested in Miri, seven in Dalat, four in Sarikei and two in Kota Samarahan, Lawas and Bintulu while one each in Kuching and Padawan.

This morning, four from Sibu were charged in the Magistrate Court for the same violation where they were all sentenced to two-month jail term.

Three of them were sentenced to an additional one-month jail term for not carrying with them their identification cards.— DayakDaily
