KUCHING, July 9: The July edition of the Ibu Pertiwi flag-raising ceremony is set to honour Sarawak Day while continuing its mission to instil a strong sense of patriotism and unity among the people of Sarawak.
According to a media release today, the ceremony will be held at Dataran Ibu Pertiwi on July 13 starting at 8am and will be officiated by Minister of Transport Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin.
Organised monthly by Kuching North City Hall (DBKU), the ceremony is part of an ongoing initiative to nurture civic pride and strengthen social cohesion through the symbolic act of hoisting the Ibu Pertiwi flag.
This month’s ceremony, themed Sarawak Day, is organised in collaboration with the Ministry of Transport Sarawak, further enhancing the significance of the celebration.
As with previous editions, the highlight of the ceremony will be the hoisting of the Ibu Pertiwi flag, an iconic symbol of the city, measuring 25 metres long and 12.4 metres wide, and raised with full decorum to a height of 99.4 metres.
The event will begin with an inspection of DBKU’s guard-of-honour, followed by the singing of the Sarawak Anthem, Ibu Pertiwiku, and a special performance.
Since its introduction in July 2024, the Ibu Pertiwi flag-raising ceremony has served as a meaningful platform to foster unity and patriotic spirit among Sarawakians.
Previously, the ceremony was officiated by the Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, on July 28, 2024.
The public is welcome to attend this monthly event, which takes place on the first Sunday of every month. — DayakDaily
