KUCHING, Oct 18: Re-elected Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) Women chief Dato Sri Doris Sophia Brodie has vowed to continue pushing for greater women’s participation in the party, declaring that she “will not stay silent” until meaningful progress is achieved.

Following her re-election at the PRS 6th Triennial Delegates Conference (TDC) today, Doris who is the Sri Aman MP, said the new Women Wing lineup, which includes several fresh faces, will first focus on consolidating itself and strengthening internal unity.

“There are some older ones who have left, but I have new faces in the lineup. So we must first strengthen our fellowship,” she told reporters when met after the TDC held at Riverside Majestic Hotel here today.

She said PRS Women is also looking forward to the implementation of the party constitution approved by the Registrar of Societies (ROS), which stipulates that 30 per cent of ordinary members in the Supreme Council must comprise women.

“I would like to see that 30 per cent not only reflected at the party’s Supreme Council level, but extended to local councils, government-linked companies (GLCs), and even in the conferment of state and federal awards,” she said.

Doris added that the ongoing delineation process in Sarawak could open new opportunities for the party, expressing hope that PRS will be allocated at least a quarter of any new constituencies created.

“And from that, we hope PRS Women Wing will be given the opportunity to field women candidates in the next State Election (PRN).

“That is our hope, our dream and our aspiration for the moment and we will sail along as time goes by,” she asserted.

Reaffirming her commitment to advancing women’s representation, Doris said she would continue to speak up for PRS Women Wing.

“For as long as I am still the Women chief, I will not stay silent until I see the figure of women’s participation in PRS improve, if not equal, at least better than what it is now,” she noted.

On the new lineup, Doris said all posts were uncontested, reflecting unity within the wing. The elected positions include the Women chief, deputy Women chief, two vice Women chiefs and 10 ordinary committee members.

Meanwhile, the principal office bearer posts, which will be appointed later, are secretary, deputy secretary, treasurer, deputy treasurer, publicity officer, deputy publicity officer and five ordinary members.

“Our lineup is uncontested, so it shows we were able to work things out. The important office bearers will be appointed immediately after our meeting,” she emphasised. – DayakDaily
