KUCHING, July 28: Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg today cited Wisma Elica as an example of the type of integrated healthcare and senior living facilities Sarawak needs, remarking that he would not mind spending his old age there.
Speaking at the official opening of Wisma Elica, which also houses voco Hotel by IHG Hotels & Resorts and East Malaysia’s largest senior wellness centre, Care Collective, he said he was impressed after touring the premises.
“I must say I am very impressed after touring this building just now. I don’t mind staying here myself as an old man in one of those rooms,” he said.
Abang Johari said the facility reflects Sarawak’s growing capability to care for its ageing population.
He said the State is expanding its healthcare ecosystem with three major hospital projects — Gleneagles Hospital in Batu Lintang, Regency Hospital at NorthBank, and the expansion of Normah Medical Specialist Centre, alongside existing public hospitals.
According to him, quality healthcare, post-treatment accommodation and hospitality facilities will encourage patients and their families to stay longer in Sarawak.
“In other words, we are building a complete ecosystem for the services industry in Sarawak,” he said.
He added that Sarawak is complementing these efforts by improving connectivity through the hydrogen-powered Autonomous Rapid Transit (ART) system and AirBorneo to strengthen the State’s appeal as a destination for tourism, investment and medical travel. — DayakDaily
