KUCHING, June 19: i-CATS University College received the ‘Best Choice—Education: Technical Skills Excellence’ award at the recent BrandLaureate SMEs BestBrands Award 2023 in Kuala Lumpur on June 15.
According to a press release, Sarawak Skills Group of Learning Institutions (Sarawak Skills) executive director and PPKS Ilmu Sdn Bhd managing director Hallman Sabri, received the award from SME Corporation Malaysia chief executive officer Rizal Nainy at the awards ceremony.
Also present to witness the presentation were The BrandLaureate World President Dr KK Johan and general manager Farouq Sahibjahn.
For the record, i-CATS UC is managed by PPKS Ilmu Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of Sarawak Skills.
Commenting on the award, Hallman who is also the chairman of the Federation of Malaysian Skills Development Centres (FMSDC) said it was indeed an honour for i-CATS UC to receive the prestigious award from The World Brands Foundation (TWBF) and it is a testament to i-CATS UC’s unwavering commitment to fly the flag excellence in tertiary-level education, and training for public and private sector employees.
He thanked Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg who is the Chancellor of i-CATS UC; Sarawak Skills chairman and Pro-Chancellor of i-CATS UC, Tan Sri Datuk Amar Abdul Aziz Husain; Minister of Education, Innovation and Talent Development (MEITD) and Pro-Chancellor of i-CATS UC, Datuk Roland Sagah Wee Inn; management council members; and stakeholders comprising the government, various sectors of industry, parents, alumni, students and staff members for their tremendous support over the years.
“They have contributed tremendously to the transformation of i-CATS UC into a leading tertiary education provider in the region, and a hub of educational excellence.
“With its impressive track record of nurturing agile and future-ready Malaysian and international graduates, i-CATS UC has become the destination of choice for many students from Malaysia and overseas who seek tertiary-level qualifications that will prepare them for their future careers.
“Yes, this award motivates us to raise the bar even higher, especially in our ongoing contributions to global talent development,” he said in the statement today.
Hallman also revealed that with the support of i-CATS UC’s major stakeholders from the government and industries, the University College is developing a range of new programmes such as Bachelor’s, Master’s and Doctorate/Ph.D., to support Sarawak’s key economic sectors/main engines of growth which are aligned with the Sarawak Post Covid-19 Development Strategy 2030 (PCDS 2030).
