BARAM, Oct 1: A search and rescue (SAR) operation has been mounted for a 40-year-old man who went missing while hunting.
According to a TVS news report today, the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said that the victim, Michael Asun Atang, and his two friends had gone out hunting at around 1pm on Sept 27.
While two of his friends returned to the village, the victim did not, prompting his family to lodge a police report on Sept 29.
The operations commander, Ramzai Talip, said a report was received at 7.03pm that day, and three firefighters from the Marudi station were dispatched to the location.
“The villagers’ efforts that day to locate the victim only ended up in them finding the victim’s clothes hanging on an oil palm tree.
“The distance between the village and the location where the victim was hunting is around an hour and thirty minutes by foot,” he said.
He added that the SAR team will focus on an 8km radius from when the victim and his friends were last seen.
“Challenges faced during the operation include the travel route to Long Laput, which is quite far from the scene, using the logging road, which is slippery after it rains, and having no communication coverage,” he said. — DayakDaily
