KUCHING, July 2: Humanoid robot Lumin entertained Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg and guests at the official launch of New Horizons for West Digital (WD) Sarawak: Advancing AI Innovations and Powering Growth today with performances of the traditional ngajat and a Chinese traditional dance.
The event, held at Sama Jaya High-Tech Park, saw Lumin take to the stage alongside a sape player Gideon Langub, delivering a lively rendition of the iconic Dayak ngajat dance that immediately captured the attention of the audience.

The performance drew smiles and applause from guests, with many seen raising their mobile phones to record the rare moment of a humanoid robot performing Sarawak’s traditional dance.
Abang Johari was also seen recording Lumin’s ngajat performance, visibly amused and impressed by the display.

Lumin then returned to the stage for a second performance, this time showcasing the elegance of a Chinese traditional dance, further impressing the audience with its fluid and expressive movements.
The back-to-back performances highlighted the fusion of advanced robotics and cultural heritage, reflecting the theme of the event and the growing role of artificial intelligence (AI) in creative and cultural expression.
The launch marks another milestone in Sarawak’s push towards becoming a regional hub for artificial intelligence, digital innovation and high-tech development, with Western Digital strengthening its presence in the State’s digital ecosystem.
While the event focused on technological advancement and industry growth, it was Lumin’s cultural performances that emerged as the most memorable highlight of the day.
