KUCHING, March 6: Hulu Langat MP Mohd Sany Hamzan withdrew his statement ‘like Orang Ulu’ at the Dewan Rakyat meeting yesterday (March 5).

Earlier, the use of the term ‘like Orang Ulu’ sparked a heated exchange between Mohd Sany, Besut MP Che Mohamad Zulkifly Jusoh, and Kulim MP Roslan Hashim during the council session.

Dewan Rakyat Deputy Speaker Alice Lau ordered the former to withdraw the statement after Puncak Borneo MP Datuk Willie intervened.

Willie had requested Mohd Sany to withdraw his statement in compliance with Rule 36 (6).

“Besut is a magistrate (judge) but his behaviour is as bad as an Orang Ulu,” said Mohd Sany after his inquiry regarding the pension was interrupted by Che Mohamad.

Following the insensitive statement, Willie rose and said, “I heard Hulu Langat mention ‘like Orang Ulu’, I request that he retract that statement because an Orang Ulu has become the Speaker of the Dewan Negara”.

Mohd Sany retracted his statement on the instructions of the Deputy Speaker (Alice).

“Yes, I retract my statement. I’m sorry because I’m from Hulu Langat, and the one that mentioned it earlier is me,” he said. — DayakDaily
