KUCHING, Feb 8: Construction work on a road diversion for the access road to Kampung Mawang Tahup is expected to be completed by this afternoon, to restore road access to the village after it was cut off by a landslide, yesterday.
According to sources, construction work is in progress by the Public Works Department (JKR) and has been underway since 9.30am today.
About 700 residents from some 130 families in Kampung Mawang Tahup are now waiting eagerly for the road diversion to be completed as soon as possible.
Yesterday, a landslide occurred around 2.30 pm, along the Kampung Mawang Tahup road, cutting road access for some 700 residents from about 130 families residing in the village.
No casualties were reported in the incident and Serian MP Datuk Seri Richard Riot was also on the ground to visit the site in the afternoon on the same day, after being informed of the incident.
Also present during the visit were personnel from JKR and the road concessionaire. — DayakDaily
