Housing developer staff at Sukma Commercial Centre tests positive for Covid-19, 9 more infected

KUCHING, May 26: An employee of a housing developer company at Sukma Commercial Centre in Jalan Sultan Tengah in Petra Jaya here has tested positive for Covid-19 and is the index case of the new Jalan Sukma Cluster in Kuching here.

Jalan Sukma Cluster is one of four new Covid-19 clusters identified in Sarawak today.

The State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), in its daily update report on the Covid-19 situation in Sarawak, informed that the index case of the cluster or case 42,039 involved a staff of the company who was detected from symptomatic screening from a private hospital on May 23 and had spread the virus to nine others.


He started to show symptoms since May 20.

The case is registered as a Covid-19 case under Samarahan District based on his home registered address.

As of today, SDMC said that 78 individuals have been screened whereby three tested negative while 65 are still awaiting lab test results.

All the positive cases have been referred to Sarawak General Hospital and admitted to the Quarantine and Low-Risk Treatment Centre (PKRC) Kuching District for treatment and isolation.

SDMC also declared the end of the Tabuan Melayu Cluster in Kuching here after no new local cases were reported in the past 28 days.

With one cluster ended and four new clusters emerged today, there are currently 87 active clusters in Kuching, out of which 14 clusters recorded an increase in daily infections with 95 news cases.

The clusters are Jalan Selirik in Kapit which added 39 more cases, Putai in Bukit Mabong (19 cases), Emperan in Selangau (10 cases), Jalan Simpang Tiga in Kuching (6 cases), Kampung Semerah Padi in Kuching (4 cases), Jalan Endap Sawit in Samarahan and Jalan Lilin in Miri (3 cases each), Jalan Dato Permaisuri in Miri, Jalan Sukma in Kuching, Beladin in Pusa and Melugu in Sri Aman (2 cases each), while Sebujok in Sri Aman, Tebedu Mawang in Tebudu and Bukit Temedak in Pakan has one case each. — DayakDaily
