SIBU, Jan 12: A housewife in her late 20s has been cheated RM41,038 in an online purchase commission scam.

Acting Sibu district police chief Supt Dr Collin Babat said on Jan 8, the victim was at her home in Sungai Bidut when she saw an advertisement on her Facebook account.

“The advertisement said that for every purchase made, the buyer will get an 18 per cent commission and that the money will also be returned to them once they receive the goods,” he said.

Enticed by the good offer, the victim transferred a total of RM41,038 to four separate bank accounts from Jan 9 to 10.

The money was from her own savings and also from her friends.

Dr Collin said the victim realised she had been cheated when she was asked to send another RM44,000.

The case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code. — Dayakdaily
