Housewife is index case of new Bako Hilir Cluster, 76 Covid-19 clusters still active in S’wak

KUCHING, May 11: A 24-year-old housewife residing in Kampung Bako Hilir here is the index case of the new Bako Hilir Cluster, the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said in a statement today.

The cluster involves four families in the village.


ā€œThe index case who is Covid-19 case 30,628 started to experience symptoms on April 25. She underwent screening of symptomatic individuals at Petra Jaya Health Clinic on April 29 and was confirmed positive for the virus the next day.

ā€œThe case contracted the infection from the community and spread it to family members. From there, the virus spread to other villagers through close contact and casual contact,ā€ the committee said.

Following an investigation and active case detection (ACD) on all family members and casual contacts of the index case, 17 more cases were detected with one of them reported today.

ā€œA total of 62 individuals have been screened whereby 18 people were tested positive for Covid-19 including the index case while 44 individuals are still awaiting laboratory results.

ā€œAll positive cases were referred to Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) and admitted to Kuching Low-Risk Treatment Centre (PKRC) for isolation and further treatment,ā€ SDMC added.

The village had been put under the Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) from May 12 until May 25 in an effort to curb the spread of the Covid-19 outbreak.
