KUCHING, July 29: Kuching found itself at the short end of the stick after it accounted for 311 out of a total of 582 new Covid-19 cases reported in Sarawak today.
Of the 311 cases, the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said 254 were close contacts to positive cases, 21 were symptomatic patients, 35 were detected from other screenings and one from active clusters.
Other than Kuching, districts that saw double-digit case number gains included Simunjan (73), Serian (51), Bau (50), Sibu (26), Bintulu (13), Samarahan (12), Miri (11) and Meradong (11).
The remaining districts with new infections were Tatau (8), Telang Usan (3), Asajaya (2), Selangau (2), Subis (2), Sri Aman (1), Mukah (1), Betong (1), Tebedu (1), Beluru (1), Kanowit (1) and Sarikei (1).
With this, SDMC said, the cumulative number of cases in Sarawak now stands at 75,793.
“Out of the total of 582 patients today, 420 were detected following close contact screenings where 14 of them were symptomatic.
“Another 65 cases were from individual screenings from active clusters where two showed signs and symptoms of Covid-19 infection.
“Adding on, there were 36 cases that were from symptomatic screenings from health facilities, 48 cases were from other screenings in health facilities, and 13 Import-B cases who came from Peninsular Malaysia,” it said in its daily update on Covid-19 today.
Zero Covid-19 fatalities were reported today, and the State’s Covid-19 death toll remained at 459.
Meanwhile, 133 patients were discharged from hospitals across Sarawak, so there remains 5,201 active cases in isolation or treatment.
On Covid-19 zones, Sarawak now has 17 red, five orange, 14 yellow and four green zones. Sebauh, Limbang, Lawas and Daro are the only Covid-19-free as of today. ā DayakDaily
