KUCHING, Nov 15: Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) candidate for P222 Lawas, Dato Henry Sum Agong, praised former Parti Bumi Kenyalang (PBK) vice-president Peter Asut for supporting him in the 15th General Election (GE15).

ā€œI am happy to see that he (Peter) is supporting GPS,ā€ said Henry Sum at a briefing session concerning the election machinery at the GPS Ba’kelalan branch on Nov 14 in Lawas.

Henry Sum said Peter could have chosen to stand and challenge him, but he (Peter) decided not to as he realised that he (Henry Sum) was picked by the top leadership for his excellent track record and capabilities to shoulder greater developments for the people of Lawas.

Peter, who was also present, urged the Lun Bawang community to stand behind Henry Sum this GE15 because they could not afford to lose the parliamentary seat to non-GPS parties as the Ba’kelalan State constituency is already under Baru Bian, who is with Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB), and had caused them to miss out on development projects.

In the 12th Sarawak Election last December, Peter contested as a PBK candidate in the Baā€™kelalan seat, where he lost and shortly after that, he left the party.

Meanwhile, Henry Sum expressed his satisfaction with campaigning preparations and urged everyone to work hard and explain to voters why GPS needs their support in GE15.

Henry Sum is the caretaker Deputy Minister of Transport and is seeking his sixth term as Lawas MP. ā€” DayakDaily
