KUCHING, Nov 5: A heavy vehicle, unauthorised to use residential roads, brought down an overhead electric cable near SMK Jalan Arang today.

Commercial Vehicle Licensing Board (LPKP) Sarawak chairman Michael Kong condemned the heavy vehicle driver’s irresponsible actions.

“While I was at SMK Jalan Arang, I noticed a lot of heavy vehicles using this road to transport goods.

“This is blatantly done despite signages prohibiting vehicles over five tonnes from using these roads,” he said in a statement today.

Kong, who is also special assistant to Democratic Action Party (DAP) Sarawak chairman Chong Chieng Jen, emphasised that the incident this morning had caused significant inconvenience for local residents.

He also pledged to raise this issue at the upcoming LPKP Sarawak board meeting to explore solutions.

“I have forwarded this matter to the Sarawak Lorries Transport Association to gather their input.

“The safety of road users and the public must be prioritised at all times,” he added. — DayakDaily
