Heavy rains across Sarawak expected to continue until Friday

KUCHING, Jan 10: Various parts of the state are expected to experience heavy rain until Friday.

According to a statement from the State Disaster Management Committee which was issued this morning, the affected areas are Kuching, Mukah, Sibu, Sarikei, Betong, Sri Aman, Samarahan and Serian.

The statement also revealed that 20 people from six families in Miri had been forced to evacuate due to a landslide on Jan 7. The victims were evacuated to the Kampung Lereng Bukit multipurpose hall and were reported to be in good condition.


Meanwhile, the recent heavy rains had also resulted in flooding at three schools: SK Kuala Kenyana (Mukah), SK Kuala Sigu (Sebauh) and SK Kuala Bok (Baram). A total of 129 students, 38 teachers and 22 non-teaching staff were affected. However, all three schools continued to operate with water levels ranging from 0.7 feet high to two feet high. — DayakDaily
