“A warning is issued when there are signs of a thunderstorm with a rain intensity greater than 20 mm/hour that is approaching or expected to last for more than an hour. A thunderstorm warning is a short-term warning that is valid for a maximum of six hours per release,” it highlighted.

Meanwhile, MetMalaysia stated in another advisory notice that the monsoon season is expected to begin between Feb 10 and 13, based on weather model analysis.

“This situation may cause an increase in humidity, resulting in continuous rain in Sarawak and eastern Sabah, as well as strong winds and rough seas in the South China Sea during the period,” it read.

As a result, MetMalaysia has issued a Strong Wind and Rough Seas Warning for the South China Sea, effective from Feb 11 to 13. A Continuous Rain Warning will be issued if necessary.

“In the meantime, there is still the possibility of thunderstorms and heavy rain with strong winds in certain areas of the interior and west of the peninsula, as well as Sarawak and Sabah.”

MetMalaysia also predicted dry and hot weather in the northern states of the peninsula, with temperatures exceeding 35°C.

“For current and accurate weather updates, the public should always visit MetMalaysia’s website at www.met.gov.my, follow the official MetMalaysia social media channels, and download the myCuaca application,” it added. — DayakDaily
