KUCHING, June 26: The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a thunderstorm warning for several areas in Sarawak, including parts of Kuching, Sibu, Mukah, and Bintulu, effective until 7pm today.
According to the alert issued at 4.35pm, thunderstorms, heavy rain, and strong winds are expected to hit Kuching (Bau and Kuching), Sibu (Selangau), Mukah (Mukah), and Bintulu (Tatau).
The warning was triggered by signs of thunderstorms with rainfall intensity exceeding 20mm per hour, which are occurring or expected to last for more than an hour.
MetMalaysia explained that thunderstorm warnings are short-term alerts, valid for a period not exceeding six hours per issuance. — DayakDaily
